The 2009 season is finally almost here. Having the great football mind that I do, here is my predictions for the 2009 season.
NFC East
NY Giants
Eagles *
Cowboys
Redskins
I know everyone is high on the Eagles but I still think the G men get it done on the ground and with Defense. I think the Boys will miss T.O. and the Skins will fail once more to buy a championship.
NFC South
Saints
Falcons *
Panthers
Buc's
The last to first trend continues in the South. The Falcons and Panthers have never put back to back winning seasons together. I do feel the Falcons will get that done this year and sneak in the playoffs as the last wild card team.
NFC North
Packers
Bears
Vikings
Lions
The addition of Dom Capers may end up being the biggest move of the off season. Cutler still has no WR, and the Vikings will collapse as the old man falls apart. The Lions will win a game.
NFC West
Seahawks
Cardinals
49ers
Rams
I'm going out on a limb and saying that the Seahawks will bounce back and win the division once more. The Cardinals will continue the Super Bowl looser curse, and just miss the playoffs.
AFC East
Patriots
Dolphins
Jets
Bills
Tom terrific is back and that's enough to put the Pats back on top of the East. The Dolphins will have a hard time repeating last years success. The Jets will be competitive but a rookie QB will leave them short in a few games this season. The Bills will be the best last place team in the AFC.
AFC South
Colts
Texans *
Titans
Jaguars
The Colts will win the division but won't be as good without 3 key coaches. The Texans finally take the next step and get into the playoffs. Titans will come back down to earth. The Jags are rebuilding, again.
AFC North
Ravens
Steelers *
Browns
Bengals
This is a two team race that could go either way. Now that Flaco has a year under his belt the Ravens are primed for a long playoff run. The Steelers have O-line issues and this will prevent them from repeating. The Browns and Bengals, well they are the Browns and Bengals.
AFC West
Chargers
Chiefs
Broncos
Raiders
The Chargers are Super Bowl contenders while the rest of the division is garbage.
NFC Championship Game
NY Giants vs Green Bay Packers
AFC Championship Game
Chargers vs Ravens
Super Bowl
Chargers vs Packers
The Lombardi trophy goes back home to title town as the Packers win there 13th championship.

The season is here.
I must admit I don't watch a lot of preseason football. I will however catch the first half of the HOF game and maybe the Packers if there on. So I wont be saying very much until the season gets going. One thing that bothered me last night as a fan was the fact that the Titans ran another fake punt in a preseason game. Last year they did the same thing against Green Bay. What bothers me the most is they executed both to perfection. So whats the problem. Why are you wasting a great play in the preseason, why not save it for week 1? I know coach Edwards says "We play to win the game" but is winning a glorified scrimmage really all that important. I mean just look at last year. The Lions were 4-0 in the preseason and we all know how that worked out for them. So here is a request to all NFL teams don't show your hand with all the trick plays in games that don't mean anything.

A Legend Retires
So John Madden finally puts the microphone down, now if we can just get him to put down the fried turkey leg. This is a bitter sweet day for me as a football fan. I always thought John was a big goof. I thought he was way over rated as an announcer and always pointed out the obvious. But there is no mistaking the fact that I have watched football for almost 30 years (that I remember) with the turduckin man letting me know that you have to move the ball down field in order to score. The worst part of John Madden retiring isn’t will his video game live on, or who will do the tough actin tinactin commercials, no it’s the fact that now I have to put up with even more Chris Collinsworth on my TV. That’s right they are replacing a living legend with Chris “Shut your festering pie hole” Collinsworth the worst color man in all of football. They always say you never want to follow a legend and that you want to be the guy that follows the guy that followed the legend. Well I’m hoping that NBC will act like the Green Bay Packers did after Mike Holmgren left. They gave Ray Rohdes only one year realized they made a mistake and tried to correct it. Well either way John will be missed. We will miss the boom’s after a big hit, and I’ll even miss laughing after he points out the obvious. Can you think of a better time for him to retire than at the same time as his man crush Brett Favre (well maybe we should wait until they are actually playing to make sure Favre isn’t coming back). The bottom line is we are going to miss the big guy. While some will miss him for his football knowledge I will miss him more for the fact that Collinsworth will now be calling the games.

Where will TO land?
So the Cowgirls have finally wised up and cut the cancer out of the locker room. What's next for the talented but destructive super star? Let's take a look around the league to try and help the single game catch record holder find a new home.
First stop is the obvious. Anytime a player who is on what seems to be 17th last chance is always going to be rumored to go to the Raiders. This does not appear to be a good fit at all for 81. They have a young QB who would be ruined if they brought in T.O. This would set back what is already one of the worst run organizations another four to five years. The most interesting thing here is the possibility of an altercation with his QB J. Russel who is much larger than Owens. Maybe his agent Drew Snakenhouse could write into the contract that if owner Al Davis dies T.O. could run the team and have every play thrown to him. So don't expect to see T.O. in Silver and Black anytime soon.
The next place on our list is in my opinion the landing place for Owens. Get ready Purple People Eaters, here comes your new hero. The Vikings made a run at TJ Whosyourmomma before losing out to the Seahawks. They are myopic enough to think that they are really that close to a Super Bowl they could be willing to take a chance. This I would love. As a Packers fan to see him go in and just kill this team from the inside out. We know they would take a look at players with troble past, one of a few teams that have showed interest in Ron Mexico (Vick). They have no QB although Sage is an improvement over Tavaris Jackson. This team does not have enough leadership to handle Owens. This move would be a very early Chistmas present for Packer season ticket holder number 59,891 on the waiting list. One can only dream.
Let's fly south to the land of no state income tax. Tampa may have to show some interest. They do need to reach the salary cap floor. There isn't enough good UFA's avalible for them to reach the floor. So maybe they offer a one year deal worth a rediculos amount of cash just to get to the minimum salary cap requirements. The whole no state income tax does make this an appealing spot in this economy for Owens.
The last stop we will make is the windy city. Have they ever had a good reciever there? This couldn't end all that well hear either. They have a lot of the same qualities as Minnesota. They can run the ball, play defense pretty well, and have no quarterback. This team does have some leadership but all thats on the Defensive side of the ball. Besides, for a guy who is all about flash I don't see him fitting in with the plain Chicago football philosophy.
The one thing I'm pretty sure of is this is not the last we have seen of #81. Someone will think I can change this guy. This never really works. It all starts with as Michale Jackson said I'm starting with the man in the mirror (did I really just use a Michale Jackson reference, I guess one nut job deserves another), and we all know that will never happen.
